어컴퍼니에서는 해운대 달맞이 공간의 첫 프로젝트로 ‘블루‘ 색상을 고집하며 색의 언어로 활발하게 작품 활동을 하고 있는 조은필 작가의 개인전 ’흔적의 모양’을 준비했다.
조은필 작가에게 ’블루‘라는 색상은 작업의 주된 조형 요소로 익숙함을 낯섦으로 바꾸는 매개체이다. 광기와 우울을 함유하고 있다는 보랏빛 도는 ’울트라 마린 블루‘ 색상으로 빈틈없이 채우고 덧입혀 작가의 기억 속에 축적되었던 이미지와 기억 또는 현존하는 오브제들의 본색을 탈색시키고 비현실적이고 비일상적인 공간으로 전환한다.
이번 개인전 ‘흔적의 모양’은 예상치 못하게 장기화 되고 있는 COVID-19로 인해 불가피하게 겪어내야 했던 힘들고 무거운 감정의 환기를 위한 소소한 기쁨의 행위가 작업의 출발점이다. 작가는 집에서 머무는 기간이 길어짐에 따라 집이라는 제한된 공간 속에서 느꼈던 우울감이나, 무기력함을 이겨내기 위해 식물들을 키우기 시작하였다. 식물에서 싹이 돋아나거나, 우연히 활짝 핀 꽃이나 잎을 발견하는 등 일상에서 익숙하지만 우연한 순간을 마주했을 때의 놀라움과 반가움의 감정을 작업으로 옮겨왔다. ‘흔적의 모양’ 시리즈는 사상 초유의 팬데믹 속에서 살아가는 한 개인이자 예술을 하는 작가로서 예술이 가진 역할과 태도, 방향성에 대한 고민을 끝에 얻은 답, 즉 예술적 행위가 사회적 역할뿐만이 아니라 작가 개인에게도 위로와 즐거움을 줄 수 있다는 결론을 담고 있다.
As the first project of the Haeundae Dalmaji, accompany prepared a solo exhibition called "Shape of the Trail" by Cho Eun-pil, who insists on "blue" color and is actively working in the language of color.
For artist Cho Eun-pil, the color "blue" is the main formative element of work and is a main medium that turns familiarity into unfamiliarity. The purple color which is filled and added with the color "ultra marine blue", contains madness and depression, bleaching the true colors of images and memories accumulated in the artist's memory or existing objects and converting them into unrealistic and unusual spaces.
The starting point of this individual exhibition, "The Shape of a Trail," is a small act of joy for evoking the hard and heavy emotions that have been inevitably experienced due to the unexpectedly prolonged COVID-19. As the artist stayed at home longer, she began to grow plants to overcome the depression or lethargy she felt in the limited space of home. She has transferred the feelings of surprise and gladness to work when she encounters a familiar but accidental moment in her daily life, such as sprouting from plants or accidentally finding flowers or leaves in full bloom. The "Shape of the Trail" series contains the answer obtained after contemplating the role, attitude, and direction of art as an individual and artist living in an unprecedented pandemic, that artistic action can comfort and entertain individual artists as well as social roles.
조은필 작가가 그동안 선보여온 ‘블루‘로 어떤 공간을 점유한다거나, 기존의 오브제를 활용한 ’블루‘의 영역 확장이 아닌 도자기법이라는 새로운 시도를 하였다는 점은 이번전시에서 특별히 주목할 점이다. 이번 개인전을 위해 작가는 조각의 가장 근원적인 재료와 태도로 돌아가 흙을 이용하는 도자기법을 처음으로 배우고 연구하였다. 흙을 만지며 형태를 빚고 그 위에 ’블루‘색상의 안료를 올려 굽고 쌓기를 반복하였다. 이번 전시의 모티브인 매 순간 변화하는 식물들의 자취를 포착하고 그 곡선과 형상을 고착화시키기에 도자기법은 적합하였다. 작품이라는 결과물은 물론이며 모든 작업을 작가의 손을 거쳐 제작해야하는 그 모든 과정과 행위가 예술 그 자체인 것이다..
전시장은 유려한 곡선과 독특한 형태를 가진 조은필 작가의 ’블루‘색 식물들로 가득 채워져 있다. 조은필 작가의 ’흔적의 모양‘은 8월 11일부터 10월 1일까지 향후 어컴퍼니의 본거지가 될 해운대 달맞이 공간의 처음 그대로의 모습과 함께 관람할 수 있다.
What is particularly noteworthy about this exhibition is that Cho Eun-pil has made a new attempt of ceramic techniques without occupying any space with "Blue" that she has introduced so far or expanding the area to "Blue" using existing objects.
For this individual exhibition, the artist returned to the most fundamental materials and attitudes of sculpture and learned and studied ceramic techniques using soil for the first time. It was formed by touching the soil, and the 'blue' color pigment was baked and stacked repeatedly. The ceramic technique was suitable to capture the traces of plants that change every moment and fix their curves and shapes, the motif of this exhibition. Not only the result of the work, but also all the processes and actions that all works must be produced through the artist's hands are art itself.
The exhibition hall is filled with "blue" plants by artist Cho Eun-pil with elegant curves and unique shapes. Cho Eun-pil's "Shape of a Trail" can be seen from August 11 to October 1 with the first appearance of the Haeundae Dalmaji Space, which will be the home of the Affair in the future.
