오랜 시간 이방인으로서의 경험은 사회를 좀 더 거시적인 시선으로 바라볼 수 있는 경험을 제공했다. 한국에서의 삶이 반드시 내부에 중심이 있었던 것은 아니었지만, 오랜 유럽에서의 경험은 내가 사회에서 어떤 위치에 존재하는지를 상기시켜 주었다. 감정이 투입되지 않은 사회는 모든 것들이 개별적 단위들로 보였고 이들 사이에서 일어나는 사건은 결합하고 해체되는 구조처럼 보였다. 내가 바라본 구조들은 움직임을 통해 리듬과 서로 간의 의미들을 만들어 갔다. 이는 내가 시각미술을 전공해 왔으나 작업 활동 후 음악의 리듬인 청각적 요소들에 더욱 집착할 수 있었던 이유를 만들어 내었다. 내가 이 사회를 바라보았던 시점을 청각으로의 전환 혹은 청각 예술을 시각적 영역으로 재현하는데 과정들은 음악인들과의 다양한 프로젝트를 진행하는 모티브가 되어 왔다.

The experience as a stranger for a long time provided an experience to look at society more macroscopicly. Life in Korea was not necessarily centered inside, but my long experience in Europe reminded me of where I exist in society. In a society where emotions were not put in, everything seemed to be individual units, and the events occurring between them seemed to be combined and dismantled. The structures I looked at created rhythms and meanings between each other through movement. This created a reason why I had majored in visual art, but was able to be more obsessed with the auditory elements, the rhythm of music, after my work activities. The process of converting the point of view of this society to hearing or reproducing auditory art in the visual domain has been the motif of various projects with musicians.

제주 오름에서의 프로젝트 In & Out은 청각적 요소를 바탕으로 촉각과 시각 등의 공감각을 이용하려고 한다. '오름'이라는 오픈 공간은 반 이방인인 내게 많은 감정을 유발해 주었던 공간이다. 제주는 시각적 요소 그리고 바다와 바람의 소리가 매우 조화로운 곳이다. 이 자연스러운 공간은 지극히 인간의 감정을 일깨워주는 매력적인 곳이다. 사실 청각이라는 모티브를 구현할 수 있는 이상적인 공간이기도 하다. 이번 주제는 인간과, 우주의 근본을 이루는 원자 그리고 알고리즘 사이의 연관성이다.
음악, 시각 그리고 몸짓을 혼합한 하이브리드 형태를 취하고 이들과의 관계는 알고리즘이 눈에 보이지 않는 창의적인 도구로서 인간과 데이터의 자유로운 입력에 반응하는 도구로서 기능하는 것이다. 그런 다음 나는 관객이 실제 악기를 연주하고 다룰 수 있는 것처럼 이 무형의 알고리즘 악기를 연주하려고 한다. 시각과 음악, 움직임이 혼합된 이 프로젝트는 악기이자 동시에 공연이 만들어내는 창조적인 공간이다.

Project In & Out in Jeju Oreum tries to use synesthesia such as touch and sight based on auditory elements. The open space called 'Oreum' is a space that caused a lot of emotions for me as a semi-stranger. Jeju is a place where visual elements and the sound of the sea and wind are very harmonious. This natural space is a very attractive place to awaken human emotions. In fact, it is also an ideal space to embody the motif of hearing. This topic is the connection between humans, the atoms that form the basis of the universe, and algorithms.

It takes a hybrid form of music, sight, and gestures, and the relationship between them functions as a creative tool that the algorithm responds to the free input of data with humans. I then try to play this intangible algorithmic instrument just as the audience can play and handle real instruments. This project, which is a mixture of sight, music, and movement, is both an instrument and a creative space created by performances.

원자는 양자, 중성자 그리고 전자로 이루어졌다. 물질을 이루기 위한 최소 단위 원자 하나로 시작해 단순하고 복잡한 결합으로 세상의 모든 다양한 물질을 만든다. 이 단순한 법칙으로 복잡하고 다양한 무엇이 탄생하듯이 우리가 사는 복잡하고 다양한 사회현상을 해석하고자 한다. 원자들은 서로 적당한 간격과 균등한 힘으로 질서를 유지하고 있다. 질서를 깨기 위해서는 에너지를 투입하거나 잃어야 한다. 이렇게 깨진 질서는 또 다른 질서를 만들고 안정을 찾아간다. 이 행동은 단순한 입력과 출력이라는 메커니즘으로 우주의 복잡한 구조를 만든다. 0과 1 또는 모어스신호인 붙이고 떨어짐 같은 단순한 운동으로 복잡한 언어가 만들어지듯이 원자를 구성하는 전자들의 들어감과 나옴 또는 공유는 우리가 구성하고 있는 사회현상과 닮았다.

Atoms consist of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Starting with a single smallest unit of      atom to form matter, a simple and complex combination makes all the different  substances in the world. Just as complex and diverse things are born out of this simple  law, I want to interpret the complex and diverse social phenomena in which we live. Atoms maintain order at appropriate intervals and equal forces with each other. To break order, we must put in or lose energy. This broken order creates another order and finds  stability. This action creates a complex structure of the universe by simple mechanisms of input and output. The incoming and outgoing or sharing of electrons that make up an atom resemble the social phenomena we construct, just as complex languages are created by simple movements such as 0 and 1 or attaching and dropping like the Mowers signal.

강대운 작가는 시각미술을 전공했으며 프로그래밍과 테크놀러지를 기반으로 시각과 청각, 공간적인 요소 그리고 인간 사이에 성립할 수 있는 관계를 고민하고 개념화하는 멀티미디어 아티스트이자 디자이너다. 나의 작업은 공연과 설치, 인터랙티브 등 다양한 접근 방식을 취하며 시각적으로 풍성하고 재미와 감동을 줄 수 있는 감각적인 작품을 추구한다.
전작, 프로젝트 Indrift의 주제는 혼돈, 우주의 탄생과 확장 그리고 인간이 환경과 자신을 발견하는 본질적인 통일성이며 이 모든 것과 하나가 되는 것이다. 회전(수피댄스), 퍼포먼스, 음악, 낭송, 라이트 그리고 영상을 결합한 하이브리드 라이브 공연이다. 그리고 또 다른 프로젝트로 NipplePot, 듀오로 결성된 라이브 사운드-영상 퍼포먼스 그룹이다. 주제는 없으며 그 순간의 느낌을 따르는 즉흥적인 요소를 취한다. 두 작품의 공통점은 라이브 공연에서 음악, 무용, 라이트와 영상이 상호 작용을 통해 다양한 예술적 어휘가 결합되어 독특하고 새로운 표현으로 합쳐지며 영상이 공연을 이끌기도 하는 구성 요소로서의 기능이었다. 이 두 프로젝트를 진행하면서 공연적인 요소를 설치작품으로서의 가능성으로 보았고 최근 들어 급속도로 발전하는 IT와 특히 AI의 발전을 보면서 더 확신이 들었다. 이번 주제는 전작 Indrift의 코스모시스에 이어 인간과 우주의 근본을 이루는 원자 그리고 알고리즘 사이의 연관성을 탐구하고자 한다.

Kang Dae-woon majored in visual art and is a multimedia artist and designer who contemplates and conceptualizes visual and auditory, spatial elements, and possible relationships between humans based on programming and technology. My work takes a variety of approaches, including performances, installations, and interactions, and pursues sensuous works that are visually rich and fun and touching.

The theme of the previous work, Project Indraft, is chaos, the birth and expansion of the universe, and the essential unity with which humans discover the environment and themselves and become one with all of this. It is a hybrid live performance that combines rotation (super dance), performance, music, recitation, light, and video. And another project is a duo group that performs live sound-video performance called NipplePot. There is no theme, and it takes an improvisational element that follows the feeling of the moment. What the two works had in common was that in live performances, music, dance, light, and video were combined into unique and new expressions through interaction, and video was also a function as a component that led the performance. While working on these two projects, the performance element was viewed as the possibility as an installation work, and I was more convinced by the rapid development of IT and especially AI in recent years. Following the cosmos of the previous work Indraft, this theme aims to explore the relationship between the atoms and algorithms that form the basis of the human and the universe.
