기억의 저편_The Other Side of Memory

어컴퍼니 2023년 첫 전시로 자전적인 이야기를 자화상 또는 인물의 얼굴에 초점을 두고 그려내는 두 여성 작가, 이선경(SunKyung LEE)과 샤를로뜨 푸에르타(Charlotte PUERTAS)의 [기억의 저편_The other side of memory]를 마련했다.
부산을 거점으로 활동하는 이선경(SunKyung LEE)과 프랑스에서 활동하는 샤를로뜨 푸에르타(Charlotte PUERTAS)는 일상에 잠재되어 있는 감정들과 개인의 기억과 트라우마 등을 신체에서 가장 먼저 지각되는 곳인 얼굴을 통해 표상한다. 무방비 상태로 항상 노출되어 있는 얼굴은 감정을 드러내기도 감추기도 하는 양면성을 가진 부위로 두 작가에게는 그들의 기억을 드러내기도 하고 아픔을 감추기도 하는, 더 나아가 그 아픔을 치유하기도 하는 도구이다.
이선경과 샤를로뜨 푸에르타의 섬세하고 내밀한 감성이 묻어난 이번 작품들은 이 시대를 힘겹게 살아가는 우리에게 따뜻한 위로와 용기를 건네고 있다.
As the first exhibition of 2023, accompany prepared "The Other Side of Memory" by SunKyung LEE and Charlotte PUERTAS, two female artists who draw autobiographical stories on self-portraits or characters' faces,
SunKyung Lee, who is based in Busan, and Charlotte PUERTAS, who is based in France, represent the emotions latent in everyday life, personal memories and trauma through the face, which is the first place to be perceived in the body. The face is defenseless and always exposed, so it is a two-sided part that both reveals and hides emotions, and it is a tool for the two writers to reveal their memories, hide their pain, and further heal their pain.
The works, which exude the delicate and intimate sensibilities of Lee Sun-kyung and Charlotte Puerta, offer warm consolation and courage to us who are struggling in this era.
이선경 작가는 익숙하면서도 때론 낯설게 느껴지는 자신의 얼굴로 다양한 심리적 상황을 그려낸다. 거울을 통해 자신을 바라보고 점검하면서 내면의 해결되지 못한 트라우마를 치유하는 과정을 자화상으로 담아낸다. 이선경 작가의 자화상 속에는 인물과 더불어 다양한 식물과 꽃, 얼음, 나비, 새 등 작고 가냘픈 존재들이 함께 등장한다. 인물의 몸을 뚫고 자라나는 식물과 꽃들은 피부를 뚫고 아름답게 피어오르며, 이는 연약함이 지니고 있는 강인함, 특히 우리의 삶에서 언제나 피할 수 없이 맞닥뜨리게 되는 시련을 극복해내는 힘을 의미한다.
종이 위에 콩테, 색연필 등으로 수없이 긋고 칠하기를 반복한 작품은 섬세한 동시에 부드럽고 매혹적이다. 그녀는 마음 한편에 상처를 감춘 채 녹록치 않은 삶을 살아가고 있을 어른들에게 따스한 위안과 격려를 건네고자 한다.
이선경 작가는 조현화랑, 프랑스문화원, 뮤지엄 산, 부산시립미술관 등에서 다수의 개인전 및 초대전을 가졌다.
Lee Sun-kyung portrays various psychological situations with her own face that feels familiar but sometimes unfamiliar. It captures the process of healing unresolved trauma by looking at and checking yourself through the mirror as a self-portrait. In Lee Sun-kyung's self-portrait, various plants, flowers, ice, butterflies, and birds appear together. Plants and flowers that grow through the human body bloom beautifully through the skin, which means the strength of vulnerability, especially the power to overcome the trials that we always encounter in our lives.
The works that are repeatedly drawn and painted with cones and colored pencils on paper are delicate and soft and fascinating at the same time. She wants to give warm comfort and encouragement to adults who are living a tough life with scars hidden on one side of their hearts.
Lee Sun-kyung held numbers of individual and invitational exhibitions at Cho Hyun-hwa, the French Cultural Center, the Museum Mountain, and the Busan Museum of Art.
샤를로뜨 푸에르타는 집시로 살아온 부모님의 영향으로 그 과정 속에서 겪은 결코 평범하지 않은 그녀의 철학적 사유를 담담히 작업에 담고 있다. 기억과 현실, 사랑과 아픔 등을 그로테스크하며 때로는 귀엽고 친근하게 표현한 작가의 작업 속 인물은 단순한 재현의 대상이 아닌 삶과 죽음에 대한 고찰이다.
주로 흉상으로 담아낸 이번 전시 작품의 이미지는 과감하게 축소, 왜곡하고 마카, 과슈, 수채 등 매체를 선택적으로 혼합해 사용한다. 틀에 얽매이지 않는 자유로운 작업의 방식은 작품의 집중도를 높이며 애니메이션과 영화 등의 미디어 작품으로도 확장하고 있다.
샤를로뜨 푸에르타는 파리 에꼴드보자르에서 미술과 문학을 공부하였으며 현재 파리에 거주하며 활동을 하고 있다.
Under the influence of her gypsy parents, Charlotte Puerta calmly contains her philosophical thoughts that are by no means ordinary in the process. She expresses memories, reality, love, and pain in a grotesque or cute and friendly way, and the characters in the work are not just objects of representation, but consideration of life and death.
The images of this exhibition, which are mainly captured as busts, are drastically reduced and distorted, and materials such as maca, guache, and watercolor are selectively mixed and used. The free method of work that is not bound by the framework increases the concentration of the work and expands to media works such as animations and movies.
Charlotte Puerta studied art and literature at École des Beaux-Arts, Paris, and now lives and works in Paris.
