김해를 거점으로 활발한 활동을 이어오는 영상설치작가 김도영의 개인전 "내 발에 묻은 모래 닦기" 를 진행한다.

 

<내 발에 묻은 모래 닦기>는 김도영 작가의 <수영>프로젝트의 두 번째 시리즈 [더 깊은 바다의 이야기]를 주제로 하는 전시이다.

 

2021년부터 시작된 이 프로젝트는 수영은 개인의 행위이지만, 작가는 이를 통해 우리 사회에서의 표류와 이동을 상징하고 있다. 바다를 헤엄쳐 건너는 아프리카 난민의 이야기가 현대인들이 사회적인 이유로 인해 표류되고 방황하는 모습과 비교되는 것처럼, 작가는 수영을 하지 못하는 자신의 어려움과 현실의 경계를 넘어보려는 의지를 교차시킴으로써, 현대인으로서의 이야기를 다시 전달하려고 한다.

<프로젝트: 수영>은 바다는 사회의 복잡한 구조와 헤엄쳐야 할 어려움을 상징하며, 수영은 그 어려움을 극복하고자 하는 현대인의 의지와 용기를 대변한다. 작가의 수영 연습 과정을 통해서 개인의 미시사적 요소들을 이야기하며 현대인의 생존, 욕망과 좌절을 은유하고 있다. 작가 개인의 경험으로부터 출발해 식민 지배, 자본주의에서 비롯된 오늘날 바다 위의 상처까지 초점이 확장되어 가고 있는 시리즈다.

 

김도영 작가는 소외된 계층, 사회적 약자 등 동시대에서 발생하는 문제들에 대한 사유를 물 혹은 바다라는 공간에 투영하고 있다. 수집하고 기록한 영상, 사운드 등 다양한 미디어와 그에 맞는 조형물을 만들어 결합하는 작업 방식을 택하고 있다. 그에게 물은 세상을 투영하는 거울이자 인간 사회를 은유하는 공간이다. 평범한 삶에서 내몰린 노숙자나 이주노동자의 문제 또는 환경오염 등의 현시대 발생되는 다양한 사회적 문제들은 비단 개인에게만 국한된 상황이라고는 할 수 없다. 작가는 이러한 사회적 문제들을 객관적이고 공통된 시선으로서 바라보고자 한다.

Kim Do-young's solo exhibition "Wiping the Sand on My Feet" will be displayed at Space Oreum, a video installation artist who continues his active activities based in Gimhae

 

<Wipe the Sand on My Feet> is about [The story of the deeper sea] in the second series of the <Swimming> project by artist Kim Do-young.

 

This project, which began in 2021, artist symbolizes drift and movement in our society through swimming that is an individual act. Just as the story of an African refugee swimming across the sea is compared to how modern people drift and wander for social reasons, the artist tries to retell the story as a modern person by crossing his difficulty of not being able to swim with his willingness to cross the boundaries of reality.

 

<Project: Swimming> symbolizes the complex structure of society and the difficulty of swimming, and swimming represents the will and courage of modern people to overcome the difficulties. Through the artist's swimming practice process, he talks about individual micro-historical elements and metaphorizes the survival, desire, and frustration of modern people. It is a series that starts from the artist's personal experience and expands the focus to the wounds on the sea today that originated from colonial rule and capitalism.

 

Artist Kim Do-young projects the thoughts of contemporary problems such as the marginalized class and the socially underprivileged into water or sea. He is choosing to create and combine various media and sculptures accordingly, such as collected and recorded videos and sounds. For him, water is a mirror that reflects the world and a space that metaphorizes human society. Various social problems that arise in the present era, such as problems of homeless people and migrant workers, or environmental pollution driven by ordinary life, cannot be said to be limited to individuals. The artist tries to look at these social problems with an objective and common view.
