어컴퍼니에서 배영숙 작가의 개인전 ≪앉았던, 앉은, 앉으려는≫을 진행한다.
부산을 기반으로 활동하는 배영숙 작가는 관계와 소통에 대한 고민을 작업에 담고 있다. 사회관계 안에서 예의나 예절을 유지한다는 명목하에 이루어지는 표면적인 대화로 인해 소통이 부재되는 상황에 주목하고, 그런 얕은 관계 안의 다양한 감정을 마네킹과 의자에 빗대어 표현한다.
이번 전시에서는 진정한 관계 맺음을 위한 고민과 기대를 빈 의자에 투영한 의자 시리즈 11여 점을 선보인다.
캔버스 안에는 나란히 줄지어 있거나 켜켜이 쌓여있는 의자들이 등장한다. 누군가가 이미 다녀간 자리일 수도 혹은 기다리고 있는 자리일 수 있다.
텅 빈 의자는 관계 맺음을 위한 매개체로서, 소통의 공간이자 흔적이다. 자기방어적이고 무미건조한 대화만 오고 가는 현대인들의 정서적 고립을 의미하는 동시에 진실한 관계에 대한 열망을 담고 있다. 작가는 관계의 무게와 겉치레에서 벗어나 자유롭고 진심 어린 대화를 통해 진정한 의미의 소통과 긍정적인 에너지를 찾아 나누고자 한다.
배영숙 작가의 개인전 ≪앉았던, 앉은, 앉으려는≫을 통해 현재의 관계들에 대해 되돌아보고 표면적인 소통의 한계에서 벗어나 그 속에서의 진정한 의미를 발견하는 시간이 되고자 한다.
Bae Young-sook’s solo exhibition <<sat, sit, sitting>> will be held at accompany.
Bae Young-sook, a Busan-based artist, contains concerns about relationships and communication in her work. It pays attention to the absence of communication due to superficial conversations in the name of maintaining manners or etiquette in social relations, and expresses various emotions in such shallow relationships by comparing them to mannequins and chairs.
This exhibition will showcase 11 series of chairs that project concerns and expectations for true relationships on empty chairs.
Inside the canvas, chairs lined up or piled up side by side appear. It could be the seat that someone has already been to or it could be the seat that is waiting for.
An empty chair is a space and trace of communication as a medium for establishing a relationship. It means emotional isolation of modern people, who only come and go with self-defensive and dry conversations, and at the same time contains a desire for a sincere relationship. The artist seeks to find true communication and positive energy through free and sincere dialogue, free from the weight and appearance of the relationship.
Through Bae Young-sook's solo exhibition <<sat, sit, sitting>>, it is intended to be a time to reflect on the current relationships and discover the true meaning in them, free from the limitations of superficial communication.
작가노트
주변에서 일어나는 잦은 소음과 그 행위, 소통하는 인물들을 섞어 공간을 탐구했다.
경험과 기억을 화면에 배치된 의자를 통해 관계의 흔적을 남긴다. 작품 속 의자는 관계를 형성하고 유지하는 데 중요한 역할을 하며 의자는 사람들 간의 소통을 중개하는 매개체로 존재하고 있다. 비어있는 자리를 통해 고요의 환경이 만들어진다.
상투적인 대화를 통해서 불안정하게 맺어지고 사라지는 관계를 텅 비고 덧없이 느낀 현대인들은
필연적인 만남의 과정에서 ‘나’의 모습을 숨긴다.
그렇게 화면에는 아무도 앉아있지 않지만, 우리는 그 자리에 있었을지도 모른다. 화면에서 사라진 인물들의 관계 맺음의 흔적은 남아 있지만, 비어있는 자리를 통해서 사라진 감정은 남아있다.
작품에 몰입하여 의자들의 이야기가 스며들고, 우리들의 관계가 완성형이 아니라 서로 기대어 삶을 통과하는 멈추지 않는 과정 중에 있음을 말하고 있다. 이야기의 공간에 발을 닿기를 바란다.
Artist note
I explored the space by mixing the frequent noises that occur around me, the actions, and the characters who communicate.
Experience and memory are left with traces of relationships through chairs placed on the screen. The chair in the work plays an important role in forming and maintaining relationships, and the chair exists as a medium to mediate communication between people. An environment of calm is created through empty seats.
Modern people, who feel the unstable and disappearing relationship through cliché dialogue, hide their 'I' in the process of inevitable encounters.
No one is sitting on the screen like that, but we may have been there. There are traces of the relationship between the characters who disappeared from the screen, but the feelings that disappeared through the empty seat remain.
It is said that the stories of the chairs permeate by immersing themselves in the work, and that our relationship is not in the complete form, but in the process of leaning on each other and passing through life. I want you to touch the space of the story.
